Alteration effect on petrophysical properties of reservoirs rocks by drilling fluid emulsifiers

Abstract Surfactants formulated into oil-based mud can adsorb to pore surfaces causing changes in rock wettability, which are widely believed impair formation permeability when invades the near-wellbore region. In present study, effects of with Versawet and Versacoat surfactants, on petrophysical properties wettability drilling cutting samples from sandstone reservoirs were investigated through relative permeability, index, adsorption measurements at standard conditions a micromodel device. The X-ray analysis flame photometer used characterize cuttings samples, functional groups surfactants identified by infrared spectroscopy. Relative was studied using unsteady state method, index measured Amott method after aging formulation for 24 720 h then behavior Langmuir isotherm. results show that is mainly composed quartz 71.9%. Surfactant reduces causes change more oil-wet state, these become pronounced as contact period surfactant increases. reservoir altered due hydrophobic layer surface samples. retention polar part -NH 2 -COOH silanol calcium atoms included structure rocks. They key interactions alteration process.
